Good afternoon,
Primary 4 have been very busy this week and are settling into the school routine once again.
This week we have been continuing with our reading of our Roald Dahl novels, and we have been developing our dictionary skills, looking up words we are unfamiliar with, finding out their meaning and writing sentences with these words in them. We are making really good progress in our dictionary work – all our work on alphabetical order in our spelling is paying off!
We have been learning about the purpose and function of the skeleton in our topic work, and we linked this with our health and well-being this week as we explored ways in which we can keep our bones healthy and strong.
You may be interested to know that in RME we were learning about Christian baptism and the symbols and events used during this ceremony. This might explain why the children may have been asking you if they were baptised, and if they were they may have had further questions such as who their godparents are, and if they were baptised with oil or water.
After a class discussion, the children decided they would like colourful flowers in their playground planter. This week in outdoor learning we planted out petunias and fuschias, and we are looking forward to watching them grow into a colourful display. We also did some other colourful planting …look out for more details to follow.
Again, a reminder to everyone that our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday, and all children should come to school with indoor gym shoes on these days.
Next week we will be marking the historical event of the coronation of King Charles III as a whole school. All children are invited to come to school wearing red, white and blue (or any combination of these). There will be no Field Good Friday next week, as the children will be dressed in their colours, and we will have other activities planned to celebrate this event.
Finally, the school photographer will be in school on Tuesday, so all children should come to school in full school uniform for this.
I hope you all have a lovely, long weekend,
Mrs Haddow
