This week primary 4 have been continuing their work on division, and have been learning to answer sums with missing numbers. We have been using real life contexts to help us understand how to 'read' these number sentences, and we have been using concrete materials to help us understand how to answer these. The children have become much more confident in working with these, and they are developing their understanding of the link between multiplication and division. Some children are now being challenged with working with division sums beyond their tables, and are making good progress with this.
On Wednesday we were all lucky enough to be allowed to pick a book from the Book Swap. Thank you to the Primary 7 classes for organising this event for all of us - and what a wonderful way to give unwanted books a new lease of life.
In literacy we have just finished a block on learning to write newspaper reports. The children have all made super progress in writing these - we have reported on exciting 'news' events - the suspected murder of Humpty Dumpty, Severus Victorius' incredible chariot race and the disappearance of the grown ups in Whiffington Town. The children have all developed their skills in writing catchy headlines, concise opening paragraphs and on reporting facts including a quote from an interview.
Following on from World Book Day, in drama we have been linking literacy and drama as we worked on developing our skills in telling a story through the use of puppets. These will be performed next week and look like being good fun.
In social studies we have started to learn about the incredible force that was the Roman army, and in ICT we have all been developing our research skills as we have been finding out about Roman Gods. Over the next few weeks we will use our research to learn how to make PowerPoints and we will share these with the class.
Next Friday Canmore will be taking part in Red Nose Day. Primary 5 are organising this, and there will be more details to follow.
On Seesaw there are details of a competition being run by our Rights Respecting Group. Please have a look, and encourage your child to become involved by creating a design and entering the competition.
Have a lovely weekend
