Good afternoon
This week Primary 4 were very excited to start their new social studies topic of ‘Chocolate and Fairtrade’ which links to our novel study on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This week we were learning where and how cocoa pods are grown and turned into cocoa beans. We were quite surprised to learn how long this process takes – considering it takes us just minutes to devour a bar!
In numeracy we completed our topic on addition. We have learned a number of different strategies for addition now, and in mental maths we have practised counting on in tens and number bonds to 100. Next week we will start on subtraction.
In literacy we had fun writing an imaginative story based on the characters we created from natural materials in outdoor learning last week. The children were very creative in designing their characters and they are looking fantastic. All the characters have now been written into exciting adventures where they meet an evil tree elf.
In PE we have started to practise our Scottish Country Dancing skills. The children have worked really well on learning the sequence of movements and found out that Scottish dancing is really quite energetic and tiring.
As the days are getting darker, road safety becomes even more important. This week the children were involved in discussing how to stay safe near roads. We looked at a video with various scenarios where children were facing potential danger, considered what was causing the danger and discussed how they could make small changes to their behaviour to stay safe. The children showed a good awareness of risks and came up with very sensible solutions. The key message was Stop, Look, Listen and Think and this may be something you wish to reinforce with your child too.
I hope you have a fun weekend,
Mrs Haddow
