Good afternoon
It was lovely to see so many of you last week during our Meet the Teacher session, and I hope you enjoyed your tour of the class area and now have some idea of where your child is spending their day. It was a very busy afternoon, so I am looking forward to chatting with you more in our parent contact sessions, which are fast approaching.
This week in numeracy we have been learning to round numbers. First we looked at numbers halfway between two numbers, and we used this to help us in our rounding. There is a good, fun activity on Topmarks called Rounding Rocket that your child can play at home if they feel they need more practise in doing this.
In literacy we have continued with our work on recognising and using adjectives. We completed our piece of writing on describing a setting and we were trying hard to use our adjectives in this to describe what we saw, did, heard and smelled in our magical jungles. We are becoming more confident in using adjectives with practise, and we will continue to work on our sentence building skills using these in the next few weeks.
We are very enthusiastic about Jeans for Genes Day and we have been working really hard on making this event a big success. Our presenters have been practising their scripts and are becoming much more confident with practise. Our IT team know how to play the video clips and switch between the Powerpoint and the videos, and are working on their timing of this, while our advertisers have created some very colourful, attractive posters to advertise the event. We have also measured the playground for the 6000 step Side by Side Challenge (that's 24 laps of the playground in case you were wondering!). We are almost ready for the big day itself!
Thank you for your support in making sure the children come to school on gym days with indoor gym shoes. Almost all children are now coming with these, and it is making a big difference in the hall.
Next week spelling lists will be posted on Seesaw on Tuesday as it is a holiday on Monday. Reading books should be returned then too (I think I may have forgotten about the holiday and written Monday's date on their sheets)
I hope you have a lovely weekend
Mrs Haddow
