Good Afternoon

It has been a week of many highlights.
The first of which occurred on Monday when we were invited to work with the Primary 7s, to try out a range of new offline coding games which have been purchased for the school. We had lots of fun working with our partners and learning different coding skills for each activity. Miss Yorkston even got to take part learning how to code and program the Microbit XL Cars, however it has highlighted that she does have to work on her driving ability after crashing several times! Photographs of us hard at work have been shared on Seesaw so if you haven’t had the chance to view them please do so and ask us all about our learning.

Another highlight has to be our Sports Day Practice Morning on Thursday. Unfortunately, as with every Sports Day at Canmore, there was a “little” drizzle. However, this did not dampen our spirits and we enjoyed taking part in our planned potted sports activities as well as the races. We are very much looking forward to the real event next week on Thursday 8th June and are hopeful that we have managed to fool the weather forecast into being sunny.

Our IDL lesson was also highlight of the week. We carried on from our lesson last week about Mummification and honed our artistic skills, creating canopic jars. Each of us had to draw one of the four Egyptian Gods and decorate our canopic jar with Hieroglyphs spelling out the name of each God. We then filled our Canopic jars with the correct organ (a drawing version) and learned more about other Egyptian Gods.

Our trip to the Crematorium Woods was a success once again and was our final highlight of the week. This time we were working in small groups and learning to use natural materials to create sculptures. Miss Yorkston was very impressed by the creativity of us all and was wowed by the different sculptures that we made, from replicas of the Eiffel Tower, Pyramids and the Kelpies, to hedgehogs, giant stick men and even a turtle! Again pictures have been shared on Seesaw for you to enjoy!

Thank you to all parents who have kindly volunteered their services to support us on a weekly basis on our trips to the woods. As next week is Sports Day (hopefully) on Thursday 8th June and since you have all been invited to come and share in the special event, we will be having a week off from going to the woods. Outdoor learning will still take place but we will stay in the school grounds. Therefore, we will not require parent helpers next week.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend. Here’s hoping the sun returns!
