Good Afternoon,

Our work with Similes continued this week during our Workshop for Literacy lessons. This time we used similes to create a simile poem all about ourselves. We were all very creative in our use of similes to describe ourselves with some of us being described 'as tall as trees' with hair and eyes 'brown like chocolate'. We even had some people describe themselves 'as fast as cheetahs' or 'as heavy as an elephant'. We tried to share our poems with you on Seesaw, but technology let us down and due to lack of connection we were unable. Please however talk to us about our similes as we will be proud to shre them wih you!.

We started our block on multiplication and division in Numeracy this week. We have been working hard on consolidating our understanding of the language of multiplication, using words like 'groups of 'or 'sets of'. We have even revisited the idea of Multiplication being a repeated addition pattern. Next week we will be looking at the the bar model strategy to help us understand the link between multiplication and division. For mental maths we have been focussing on our times tables by playing times table bingo, and times table snakes and ladders. We have focussed on the 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables. We have also been developing our speed in recall of the tables by playing 'Beat the teacher on the Topmarks Hit the Button game. We agree that knowing our times tables and being able to recite them quickly is a very important skill, so we ask that you help us to practise these regularly at home.

For writing this week we looked at persuasive writing texts and the language of persuasive writing. After looking at a sample of different texts a nd discussing what they were trying to persuade us to do and  how they did so, we had a go at trying to persuade Miss Yorkston to try our favourite foods. Miss Yorkston was very impressed with our writing this week and said that it took all her willpower NOT to go out and eat all our tasty food choices. Again we will share on Seesaw when Technology is working, so please talk to us about our work in the meantime.

Finally we looked at our Ancient Egyptian topic. This week we used maps atlases and a globe to locate Egypt on a map of the word. We then looked more closely at Egypt as a Country and used our mapping skills to locate important cities and landmarks on a blank map of the country.

If you haven't seen the message on Seesaw this week, We will be looking to take our outdoor learning activites into the wider community by visiting the local wooded areas. To do this we will need your help to volunteer to come with us on our journeys. If you are available on Thursday afternoons from next week the 4th May until the end of term then please get in touch with the school via email or Seesaw by next Tuesday 2nd May. Grandparents are welcome to volunteer too!

We wish eveyone a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend and we look forard to seeing everyone back on Tuesday.
