Good Afternoon,
It has been a truly wonderful week in our class that all started with our Scottish Reconnector on Monday. We all really enjoyed listening to our peers across primaries 1-7 as they entertained us with their poetry recitals and Scottish singing. Congratulations again to our four finalists and an extra special well done to our two overall class winners, Anna and Joel for wowing Mrs Howie so much with their fantastic performances.

Our performance highlights don’t stop there, as the return of the Fife festival of Music saw us showcasing our singing talents at the Vine Conference Centre on Tuesday. Despite being a little nervous and being the first performance of the morning, everyone was absolutely brilliant, with magnificent singing, excellent instrument playing and lots of smiling faces. Miss Yorkston was incredibly proud of our achievement and how well we represented Canmore Primary School. A special thank you goes to Mrs Baxter for all her hard work teaching us all the wonderful songs. We hope we did you proud too!

In other curricular news, we have been working hard to develop our subtraction skills in Numeracy. This week we have been learning to subtract 2-digit numbers from either a 2-digit number or a 3-digit number, with and without regrouping, using the partitioning method. This is quite a complex strategy and it has been challenging to remember all the steps so we will be continuing to practice this next week also.

For our topic this week we were learning more about the Scottish Inventor, Alexander Graham Bell and his world famous invention the Telephone. After completing a reading comprehension activity to learn more about Alexander’s life and complete a fact file about him, we then learned more about the science behind how the telephone works and what Bell discovered in his research. We then made our own ‘cup phones’ to test the same science Bell did many years ago.

With so many exciting activities this week, we can’t wait to see what next week brings.  Can I please remind everyone to make lunch choices on the Ipay system as the new cycle of prebooking has started this week and we have a number of children who have not made their lunch choices before arriving at school. As you can appreciate this then takes valuable time away from learning each morning. Thanks!

Have a wonderful weekend
Miss Yorkston and p3/4
