Good afternoon,

What a productive week!
Can we start by saying a massive Well Done to all for the super efforts in learning the words of our chosen Scottish poems. Most of us can now recite our Scots poem from memory and are working on including actions in order to entertain our audience. Miss Yorkston is looking forward to our recitals next week but can tell already she is going to have a very difficult decision to make choosing our four finalists. Good Luck to everyone!

Following on from our wonderful poetry recitals, for writing this week we had a go at becoming poets ourselves. Before beginning our writing Miss Yorkston asked us the question’ what do you think of when you hear the word Winter’. After sharing our ideas, we used this theme to each write a wonderful Acrostic poem all about Winter. Miss Yorkston was so impressed that we even completed a final draft, and these are now proudly displayed on our display board for all to see. We even took some pictures and shared them on Seesaw with you!

In reading this week, we have been working on our prediction skills. We looked at the cover of a book called ‘The Crow’s Tale’ By Naomi Howarth and tried to guess what might happen in the story. We had lots of super ideas about what might happen and enjoyed listening to the lovely story and were keen to see how close our guesses were. We even had a go at using our prediction skills during our own reading with Miss Yorkston and tried to predict what might happen in or next in our reading books.

We continued with our learning of subtraction this week. We focussed on subtracting a multiple and near multiple of 10 from a 2-digit and 3-digit number and we are becoming more confident in sharing our strategies for solving these calculations with each other.

In Music with Mrs Baxter, we have been very busy learning our songs for The Fife Festival of Music which takes place on Tuesday 1st February at 9:30am. In class we have been treating Miss Yorkston to a sneak preview of our performance as we practise our four songs further. Thank you to those of you who kindly volunteered to support us in our journey to the festival your help is truly appreciated, and we hope to see some more of you in the audience at The Vine Conference Centre, as you will be in for a treat!

Just a reminder that outdoor learning has now been moved to a Thursday. P.E. will remain on Tuesdays and Fridays. This mean that school uniform should be worn on Mondays and Wednesdays, with P.E. Kits worn on Tuesdays and Fridays and outdoor learning clothes on Thursday!

Wishing everyone a restful weekend!
