Good Afternoon

What a busy first full..ish week back!

This week in Literacy we were introduced to the Scots poems that we will be learning as part of our curriculum and for our ‘Burns Poetry’ Competition. For P3 we have the poems ‘Circus’ and ‘My Wee Doggie’ both by Jk Annand and the P4s also have ‘Circus’ and the poem written by poet Bill Keys called ‘A Dug, A Dug’. During our literacy lessons we worked with a partner to read through one of our poems and identify all the Scots language within. We then had a go at translating what we thought each of the words meant. We also created a poetry map of pictures and words to use as a guide when learning and remembering each line and verse of the poems. On Wednesday we took a copy of our two poems home to practise with you and we all very much looking forward to reciting these poems in class the week beginning Monday 23rd January.

In Numeracy we were learning how we can use known facts such as 7-3= 4 to help us calculate the answer when subtracting a single digit from a 2-digit and 3-digit number. We also used a number square to learn how to subtract a ten and a multiple of ten, by counting back the tens first then the ones.
IDL was one highlight this week as we were introduced to our new topic, Scottish Inventions. After looking at some pictures of much used household appliances e.g. Telephone, Fridge and TV we were surprised to discover that they were all invented by Scottish People. We can’t wait to find out about the many more inventions Scotland has created.

Our ‘Fun Field Fridays’ returned on Friday, and we had a fantastic time working cooperatively to use loose parts and materials to create dens down on our field. The challenge was to create a den wide and tall enough to fit all members sitting comfortably. This proved quite difficult as we needed to factor in the different heights of each member of our team.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend, see you all on Monday!
