Good Afternoon,

Our week got of to a truly spook-tastic start and not just because it was Halloween on Monday night.

In writing we used our planning pages from last week to write our haunted house stories.  Everyone produced much more writing than they have written before, and most were able to write a story full of descriptive language to help our audience visualise the setting and characters. Our next step is to think about the openers that we use for each sentence to create variety in our writing.

In literacy we learned to identify onomatopoeia. After watching and listening to a video of Bonfire Night celebrations we collectively created a list of onomatopoeic sounds that we could hear for fireworks. We then used these words to up-level Miss Yorkston’s simple sentences of her experiences during bonfire night.

We started our new topic ‘Toys’ this week by creating a KWL grid of all that we know about toys and questions we would like to find out about. We also “received” a letter from Argos, asking for our help in creating a new board game and designing a new toy to add to their catalogue. (Please note this is a storyline approach to our topic)

In Numeracy we developed our addition skills. On Monday we looked at how using related facts for 10 can help us solve number facts for 100 and even number facts to 1000. We also looked at adding a single digit number to a two- or three-digit number.

For Mathematics we learned to use vocabulary such as forwards, backwards, right, and left to describe movement. We then took our learning outside during our outdoor learning afternoon on Friday, and used our new skills to follow a series of instructions in order to navigate around our playground.

On Tuesday Miss Yorkston uploaded onto Seesaw our new Spelling Homework grids alongside our new word lists for this week. Also on Wednesday we brought home our new Homework Grids and Sumdog usernames and Passwords. Please check our school bags for these important documents.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
