Good Afternoon,

It is hard to believe that we have come to the end of the first term of Primary 3/4 already.  It has been a very busy term with many exciting highlights.

We have now completed our Numeracy topic on Place Value of numbers to 100, 1000 and 10000. This week we focused on ordering and comparing numbers from smallest to largest and vice versa.  We learned a top tip for success is to start by looking at the first digit of each number, and if they are different, we can easily work out which number is smaller or larger. However, if the first digit is the same, we need to look at the next digit and the next and so on. For example, if the numbers were 123, 154, 176 and 139, the hundreds are all the same so we would need to look at the digit in the ten’s column to work out the correct order. Miss Yorkston has been very impressed with the effort we have shown towards our place value learning this term.

Also, this week, to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day, we decided to put our learning on using adjectives in character description to the test and write a description of Miss Yorkston.  The whole class really pushed themselves to produce character descriptions which were full of adjectives and produced much more writing than they have written before. Miss Yorkston was incredibly proud and extremely moved by the wonderful words and sentences that we had all written.

In Health and Wellbeing, we continued to help our friend 'Stinky Bob' learn how to take better care of his teeth. We were absoluetly shocked and disgusted by the results of our egg experiment. (please ask us all about this at home) and decided to make Bob a poster of top tips for taking care of his teeth including brushing for 2 minutes twice a day, flossing, drinking water or milk not sugary drinks such as cola, irn bru or Ribena, eating healthier snacks and visiting the dentist regularly.

We have loved our Weather topic this term from learning about the different weather types, to how clouds are formed and the different cloud names and exploring and creating weather instruments. We especially loved working with our groups to plan and give our own weather forecasts. If you haven’t already, please look at our weather forecast videos on Seesaw, they truly are tremendous. Through Digital Literacy, we have been working on researching different types of extreme weather and working in groups to create informational PowerPoint Presentations on our chosen extreme weather. We look forward to completing and sharing these to both our class and P3 early next term.

A highlight this week was having the opportunity to come together as two classes to discuss the play provision and setup in our class area. We discussed what was working well so far in terms of play provision, what we would like to add and even how we would change our classroom area to provide better play opportunities. We even, with the help of Miss Yorkston, Mrs Hay and P3, made some changes to our current classroom layout and can’t wait for the holidays to end so that we can get back in and start playing together again.

We hope you have a wonderful, restful holiday. See you all in 2 weeks.
