Good Afternoon,
We have had a wonderful, productive week of learning in P3/4.
In Numeracy we have been continuing our work on place value, where we have been learning to identify the value of each digit within numbers up to 100, 1000 and even 10,000s.  We used concrete ‘Dienes materials’ to support us in developing a better understanding of reading, building and writing 2, 3, or 4 digit numbers. We have also enjoyed playing various games including place value Bingo and our favourite game ‘Scoot’

We have introduce our spelling patterns for this week and on Wednesday we all brought home our spelling homework jotters with a grid of different spelling activities that we can use to further practise our spelling words at home.  In class this week we learned to spell words with the ‘ck’ sound. We played spelling showdown to encourage recall of words rather than copying. We talked about how this is more effective in helping us remember our spelling patterns. In other areas of Literacy we continued our learning on identifying Vowels and Consonants and used text from our class novel ‘Matilda’ to search for words that contain two, three and four consonants. We are becoming more confident in recalling the vowel and consonants sounds within the alphabet.  For writing, we set ourselves the challenge to write about our goals and dreams for our future (both near and far). Not only did we have to think of what our goals might be but also what we would have to do in order to achieve them.

In Health and Wellbeing, we met a boy named Bob, who unfortunately has been given the rather unfortunate nickname ‘Stinky Bob’ due to his lack of personal care and hygiene. In groups we discussed ways in which Bob could take better care of himself and we have vowed to help teach Bob what he needs to do in order to look after his body.

In our Project work, we learned to identify different types of clouds and learned what type of weather each may present. We learned that there are three main cloud types, ‘Cirrus, Stratus and Cumulus’ all other clouds names are a combination of these three cloud types. For outdoor learning we took our cloud spotters that we created outside and had a wonderful afternoon looking up to the sky and identifying the clouds we could see.

Finally the highlight of the week was welcoming you all into our classroom for our Meet the Teacher afternoon today. We had a wonderful time showing you around our classroom area and getting your thoughts on our play journey.

PLEASE NOTE: due to a timetable change our Tuesday gym slot will change next week to Thursday. Children should come to school in their gym clothes on Thursday instead.

We wish everyone a wonderful, relaxing weekend.
