Good Afternoon,

We have been focusing this week on demonstrating our Canmore values and working collaboratively as part of team. In P.E we have been participating in several team sports challenges including; ‘Through The Hoop’, ‘Caterpillar Races’, and ‘Relay Races' and have learned that Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and communication are essential for great teamwork.

In Numeracy we have been learning to round 2 digit and 3-digit numbers to the nearest 10 and 100. We learned that to round a number to the nearest 10, we have to look at the Ones digit. If the Ones digit is 5 or more, then we round up. If the Ones digit is 4 or less, we round down. Similarly, when rounding to the nearest 100 we learned that if the tens digit is 5 or more, we round up. If the tens digit is 4 or less, round down. We enjoyed demonstrating our skills by playing many rounding games including a partner ‘rounding in a row’ game.

Miss Yorkston was especially delighted this week as we started reading our new class novel ‘Matilda’ by Roald Dahl. This is Miss Yorkston’s all time favourite book and after reading a couple chapters we can see why. We will be using this novel over the course of the term to support us in our literacy and writing learning. This week our focus was on identifying vowels and consonants and we have learned an easy way to remember the five vowel sounds: An Elephant In Orange Underpants (A, E, I, O, U).

Just a reminder that our reading books should be returned every Monday.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend.
