Good Afternoon,

How are we at the end of another week already? We have had a very busy week full of learning.

In Numeracy we continued to learn about fractions. This week our focus has been on recognising and finding ¼ of shapes, objects and amounts. We have made a link to previous learning around division when finding a ¼ of an amount as you divide the number by 4.  On Monday we also developed our data handling skills. After using our learning from last week on collecting data using tally charts. We went outside and took a survey of the colour of cars in the staff carpark. We then used this information to display on a pictogram.

In IDL we focused our learning on Trains. After watching a short video clip all about trains and train journeys we increased our understanding of the difference between fact and opinion statements and wrote facts and opinions about trains. Please check Seesaw and try to work out which is which? We also had fun creating our own trains from junk and then racing them as part of our STEM Challenge on Friday.

This learning led nicely to our new class novel “The Train to Impossible Places' by P.G Bell. There was great enthusiasm as we made predictions about where these impossible places might be. Some predictions included space, the park, back in time, etc.

You will have hopefully noticed that I have uploaded our new homework task for this term. As per the homework task weekly reading and spelling will continue to be issued. Occasionally I will set numeracy homework in the form of Sumdog challenges. Our focus for homework this term will be to develop our Listening and Talking skills. As you can see on Seesaw the task set is to prepare a talk of 2-5 minutes about their favourite animal. The task also has some suggestions and a template for notes on what to include in their talk. This template can be downloaded and printed off for you to use. To support your talk, you may wish to create a poster/PowerPoint presentation. You can either post presentations to Seesaw, bring them into the school on a memory pen or e-mail the school office with the presentation. Equally the posters created can be handed in on the due date. I look forward to hearing your talks in June.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend
