Good afternoon,

I can’t quite believe that it is Friday already, what a very quick week it has been. We have been working hard with our learning.

In Literacy, we have been learning to identify and generate alliteration. We learned that alliteration is a descriptive word that starts with the same letter as the object that it is describing. We also learned that writers/poets will use alliteration to add rhythm and mood to their writing. We then used our knowledge to think of alliterative words to describe each other. On Wednesday we then tried to use alliteration in our writing as we wrote an Acrostic poem for one of our classmates. Please see Seesaw for examples of our work with Alliteration this week.

In Numeracy we have concentrated on subtracting 2-digit numbers from a 2-digit number within 100, by regrouping, this means borrowing a ten. We used concrete materials (dienes) to support us and we are slowly beginning to understand how this concept works. Further consolidation at home with borrowing from the tens will allow all pupils to feel more confident with this strategy. Please check out Seesaw to see some examples of what we have been doing in class to support this learning.

This week has been Children’s Mental Health week. The theme this year has been ‘Your Voice Matters’. After playing a quick game of Chinese Whispers, in which we learned the importance of listening carefully to each other to gain the full story, we thought about what matters to us and used our voices to share the most important things in our lives with our classmates. Also in Health and Wellbeing we helped our friend ‘Bob’ once again. This time we were helping him to learn the correct way to brush his teeth. After demonstrating the steps to teeth brushing and proper brushing technique on Miss Yorkston’s set of false teeth, we completed a series of instructions for Bobs Help guide. We hope that Bob starts to look after his teeth a little better.

Please remember Wednesday is a school staff training day and Thursday and Friday are our two holiday days so pupils will return to school on Monday. We look forward to a short break to rest with our friends and our families before the term recommences.

Have a lovely break when it comes,
Miss Yorkston and P3
