Good afternoon,
It has been another wonderful and busy week of learning.
Firstly, please except my apologies for the lack of Seesaw engagement this week, unfortunately our Seesaw app on the iPad has not been connecting with the Wifi. I hope that this will rectify itself soon!  So here is a snapshot of our learning across the curriculum this week.

Our January topic focusing on Scottish Wildlife has been influencing our reading and writing tasks this week. On Monday whilst watching a small video clip about a red fox, we were learning to listen to and select suitable facts to help us write a fact file. On Tuesday we then developed our skimming and scanning skills in reading, to read and take notes under headings about a red squirrel. We then used these notes to again write another fact file about a red squirrel in our tools for writing. As well as focusing on all the necessary tools for writing such as, capital letters, full stops, connectives and adjectives we have been trying to increase the quantity of our writing by writing in Paragraphs.  We have also been self-assessing our work and are now beginning to select our own personal writing targets which we will individually work on in our writing.

In Numeracy, we have been continuing to learn strategies for subtracting a ten and multiples of tens from a two-digit number. We have been using a number square to support us with this and have found the pattern when subtracting in this way. We have noticed that the ones do not change, only the tens and because of this we can jump up the columns of the number square to reach the answer, rather than counting back in 1s. We have also used this knowledge to help us subtract a near multiple such as, 9, 19, 11 and 21. We would love to share this with you at home so please ask us how.

In topic we continued our learning from last week on the different animal groups by focusing on one of those groups, mammals. We learned how to identify whether an animal is a mammal or not and learned about the life cycle of a mammal. We also learned about the difference between a herbivore, carnivore and omnivore and looked at the food chains of some Scottish animals.

Our highlight of the week was our Music lesson, in which Mrs Baxter very kindly came to offer her support and provide tips for our Music Festival preparation.

I would like to take this time to thank you all for your support in helping the children learn their Scottish poems and thank you to all who have shared a sneak preview on Seesaw for me to see. As a reminder we will be listening to everyone’s poetry recitals next week starting on Monday. Then Mrs McIntosh will listen to the three finalists that we choose before selecting the overall winner, which from the sneaky peak I have seen, will not be an easy task.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend
Miss Yorkston and P3
