Good Afternoon

What a busy first full week back! I have been very impressed with how quickly everyone has settled back into routines and how engaged, motivated, and ready we all are for another busy session of learning.
This week we have had a Scottish theme to some of our learning. In Literacy we were introduced to the Scots poems that we will be learning as part of our curriculum and for our ‘Burns Poetry’ Competition. This session most of us will be learning the poem ‘Street Talk’ by J K Annand. A small group will be learning the poem ‘My Wee Doggie’ also by J K Annand. During our literacy lessons we worked with a partner to read through our poems and identify all the Scots language within. We then had a go at translating what we thought each of the words meant. We also created a poetry map of pictures and words to use as a guide when learning and remembering each line and verse of the poems. On Tuesday we took a copy of our poems home to practise with you and we all very much looking forward to reciting these poems in class the week beginning Monday 22nd January. A copy of the poem has also been uploaded to Seesaw along with a  link to video performance of each poem to support in remembering how to pronounce some of the trickier Scottish words.

Keeping with our Scottish theme we have started our short January topic linked to Scotland on 'Scottish Wildlife'. This week we have focused our learning on identifying Living and Non-living things and the classification of different Scottish animals. We a very much looking forward to learning more about this topic over the next few weeks and are enjoying playing in our new SSPCA inspired role play area.

In Numeracy we are developing our skills in subtraction. We have learnt some new mental maths games to help our mental recall of subtraction facts and have enjoyed battling against one another to sharpen our skills. Please see Seesaw for videos of us whilst playing this new game. Continual practice at home in this is encouraged.

As you can see we have been very hard working this week.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend,
Miss Yorkston and P3
