Good afternoon

This week has just flown by I can’t quite believe we are coming to the end of November!

It has been another busy week of learning.

In numeracy we continue to work on our addition and subtraction skills, focussing on using known fact families to 10 and 20 to help us work out the answers to 100 mentally and quickly. Eg. If we know that 4 +5 = 9 then 14+5 = 19  44+5=49 etc. we have also been working on strengthening our mental abilities by starting each maths session with our 'Daily 10' game on Topmarks. This is one of the homework tasks that we encourage all pupils to complete. This will continue to help their number bonds to 20 and 100 become stronger and quicker in their recall of number bonds.

In Literacy we continued to think about our creative writing, this time focussing on the setting for our story. Some of us made excellent attempts at describing our chosen settings using adjectives and connectives to add more detail.

In outdoor learning we were exploring further the topic of hibernation. We learnt about different animals that hibernate in the UK and the reason why they do it each year. We focused on the hedgehog and went for a look around our school grounds to see whether a hedgehog might be hiding in one of our hibernation dens from last week. Unfortunately no hedgehogs were spotted but we did create our own hedgehogs using natural materials.

In gym we have also been practising dancing a Scottish Country Dance. We have been working on rhythm and timing and learning the importance of both in our dancing. We have really enjoyed ourselves during this session and DJ Raphi helps us in our warm ups for each session with his instructional dance videos.

Our health and wellbeing focus this week has been on friendship. We looked at how each of us can become even better friends to our peers in the school and have been working hard to demonstrate this to Miss Yorkston throughout the week.

Finally our topic this week has taken more of an enterprise focus, as we look forward to our School Christmas Fayre. We have completed the first of our two items we wish to sell at the Fayre, A ‘Santa Gonk’ keyring. More Information will follow later about details of the Fayre and how we can purchase our crafts.

We hope you have enjoyed reading about our busy busy week and have a wonderful weekend!
