Good Afternoon,

Halloween has been our theme this week with much of our learning deriving from this 'spook-tacular' stimulus.

On Tuesday, after being inspired by a picture of an old, abandoned house, we continued to think of how we could use adjectives to add descriptive detail to our writing. After thinking of many different adjectives, we then used them to write a description of what the Haunted house looked like. Some children were developing their skills and confidence in writing longer pieces of texts with support.

Also on Tuesday we enjoyed a creative afternoon, by having a go at making our own Haunted House pictures. Using different shades of blue and green we created an eerie, atmospheric background. Then developing our scissor skills, we used black paper to cut out a silhouette of a haunted house. Finally we added spooky details in the form of windows and doors using brightly coloured oil pastels. We hope you have had a chance to see us hard at work developing our Art skills on Seesaw and are proud of our finished pieces as shown in the picture above.

We were delighted and relieved on Wednesday that the horrid weather subsided long enough for us to take part in our second Welly Wednesday session. Sticking with the Halloween theme, we worked together in teams to create an Autumn Potion. After collecting multiple Autumn leaves on our leaf hunt around the school, we returned to the classroom, where using different shape cutters we cut small confetti like pieces to add to our potions. We then had a think about what our potion could be used for. Some of our ideas were to change us into someone or something different, others would help us fly.

In Numeracy, our money skills expanded this week as we continued to think about counting to find totals using both pounds and pence. Most of us are beginning to show confidence in counting the coins, with some of us including counting notes to our skills. Further practice at home will ensure confidence in this skill.

Finally this week we learned of what our new topic will be for this term… Toys. After receiving a rather intriguing letter from the Managing Director of a new Toy store that is looking to open, asking us to design a new toy and design and create a new board game, we set about discussing what we know already and what we would like to know about toys.

As always wishing you a wonderful weekend.
