Good afternoon,

Our week started with a very special visit during our Monday morning reconnector, from a woman named Janet MacLean. Janet works as a health and safety representative for Robertson Homes and during her visit she explained that Robertson Homes will be starting to build houses across the road from our school, behind the new Beanstalk Nursery. She also spoke to us about the dangers of building sites and that it is not a safe place to play. After discussing how we can stay safe Janet shared a special poster competition to design a safety poster that will warn others of the dangers of a building site.
On Tuesday, after a discussion about ‘What a good poster looks like’ including big bold words, clear detailed pictures, and clear, concise information, we set about designing our safety posters. Miss Yorkston was very proud of our entries and has passed our posters onto Mrs Howie who will then pass them onto Janet who has in Miss Yorkston’s opinion an impossible job of choosing a winner. Photographs of our posters however have been uploaded onto Seesaw for you to share in our efforts.
Back on Monday, we continued our learning on directions and this week focused our learning on following a set of directions around our playground, to locate different destinations. We had fun working in groups during this activity and discovered that the key to success when following directions is to read/listen carefully! We hope you enjoy watching the videos that we have shared on Seesaw of us completing this task.  In Numeracy we focused on the concept of comparing numbers. We were introduced to two Greedy Crocodiles called ‘Greater Than’ and ‘Less Than’, who like to eat numbers. However, ‘Greater Than’ only likes to eat large numbers and ‘Less Than’ only likes to eat small numbers. We have spent the week playing different games and completing several activities to identify numbers greater than and less than within both numbers to 100 and 1000. At home practising to identify the largest and the smallest numbers would be a worthwhile activity.

We ended the week showing our support for the charity ‘Jeans for Genes’ by dressing in our denim wear and by entering another competition this time set by P4, to design a new denim outfit. We also took part in the ‘side by side’ walking challenge to walk six laps of our playground with a buddy to raise awareness that there is one in every 1,000 genetic conditions that exist in in the World. Thank you P4 for all your efforts in raising awareness of ‘Jeans for Genes’ and for organising such a wonderful day.

Finally tonight your child should have brought home their ‘Cauliflower Cards’ Christmas card design to share with you. These designs can, if you choose, be turned into special cards and gifts for you to keep or share with loved ones.  Can I remind you that if you wish to purchase items with your child’s design that you read and follow the instructions on the front of the form. All purchases have to be made online via the Cauliflower Card website and the form is to be completed by placing a tick in the box which says items have been purchased.  If you are purchasing items, the form and design should be returned to school by Friday 29th September. Happy Shopping!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend
Miss Yorkston and P3
