Good Afternoon

What a very busy week we have had in Primary 3.  We are all now settling well within our classroom and have been trying our best to follow the routines and keep the promises we made to each other in our class charter.

At the beginning of the week, after finishing off some Numeracy assessments to see what we have remembered from our learning on Place Value last year, we focused on identifying the value of each digit in either a two digit up to 100 or a three-digit number up to 1000 and using the dienes materials to represent these numbers in different ways. Next week we will be learning how to partition these numbers further.   We also took our Mathematics learning outside and demonstrated our knowledge of our left and right.

In literacy we looked closely at the different parts of a sentence using our colourful semantics. After a quick discussion we agreed that for a sentence to make sense it needs to have a ‘who’- the person the sentence is about. We learnt that every name has to have a capital letter and that our who character in the story can also be written with a pronoun e.g. he, she, they. We then had a go writing our own sentences and then in our writing lesson we focused on who each of us are by writing our own character descriptions.

We were very excited to be introduced to our new topic for this term ‘Weather’. After sharing what we already knew about good old Scottish weather, we wrote down some big questions that we wanted to answer during our learning this term. We had some very interesting questions including, how does the clouds make rain? why does the sun sometimes shine when it is raining? What causes a thunder storm? And how can the weather forecasters tell what the weather is going to be? We are looking forward to finding out the answers very soon!

The highlight of the week however was inviting our parents and carers into our classroom and showing the where all of our fun and exciting learning takes place. We then enjoyed a fun filled afternoon at the PTA Summer Fete with our families.

Just a little reminder that those who wish to be considered for class Eco-Committee member should come to school with their prepared talks on Monday.
I hope those of you who are able to attend the Summer Fayre have a lovely afternoon, and that you all enjoy your weekend.
