Good afternoon,

What a quick week it has been and nice to see sunshine even though it is a bit chilly.

The children have been working on extending their use of connectives in written tasks. Our Big Writing this week was a rewrite of all explored last week.

'All About Myself.' The children have had fun learning new Scots words and using them to describe themselves. They have shared their efforts on Seesaw and used the microphone to offer a verbal description. I hope you enjoy reading the descriptions and listening to the children talk about  their learning.

We are using the Highland Literacy scheme for spelling and are working through a list of appropriate words in class and will be using these words for homework tasks to help consolidate learning.

We are continuing to work on our 2D shapes and I am very impressed with their ability to name the edges/sides and corners/vertices of a wide range of 2D shapes. The use of lolly sticks to make shapes was a definite favourite this week with quite of a few of the children discussing regular and irregular shapes.

We have looked at Egyptian houses in the past and have noted that they still use some of the design features nowadays.

The children have created their own avatars for a SumDog competition. They were very creative.

For art today, we made lovely tartan pictures.

Monday is our scottish poetry recital day. Three of our class members will be selected to recite their poem to Mrs Howie and Mrs McIntosh. A special finalist will be invited to share their efforts at Reconnector on Friday 28th January'22. Please encourage your child to use eye contact, gesture and a nice clear voice.

We are encouraging your child to part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch next weekend.and will be making a fat ball for them to take home to encourage the birds to come to your garden. It is always great fun to listen to the birds and to watch them as they search for food.

Have a great weekend.
Miss Shearer
