It is lovely to be back after our break away. The class topic this term will be Ancient Egypt. The children have discussed what they already know about the subject and what they would like to find out. A lot of the class want to know how mummies were prepared and how pyramids were built.

We are continuing to work on our take away skills. We have been using concrete materials to support us. The children have also been shown how to link their knowledge of take away to ten to mentally solve take away sums up to 20.

In writing the children continued their work on informal letter writing. They wrote a thank you letter to a family member, friend or Santa. It was to thank them for a present or experience they had over the holidays.

We have been focusing on improving our spelling of common words this week. The children have been assessed on the words they should be able to spell at this stage. This will give Mrs Greig and I knowledge of what words we need to continue working on and what words the children now confidently know.

In music the children have been learning the songs that they will be singing at the music festival that takes place later this term.

The children have been sent home with a poem to learn as part of our focus on the Scottish language. It would be much appreciated if you could support and encourage your child to practise. All children will get a chance to perform their poem in class and a couple will be chosen to then perform at our Scots assembly.

Just a little reminder that gym is on a Monday and Wednesday this term and full indoor gym kit is required.

Kind regards, Mrs Thomson
