Good afternoon everyone,

P3 started a new maths topic this week. The focus has been on fractions. The children have been working with halves and quarters. They have learnt that the bottom number in the fraction (the denominator) tells you how many equal parts something is shared into and the top number (the numerator) tells you how many of the parts you have. The children have identified fractions of a shape and also fractions of amounts. They noticed that they could use their knowledge of dividing by two and four to help them find fractions of amounts.

We have continued to work on including different openers in our writing and upleveling sentences to make them really interesting. It is clear the children are using their knowledge of Colourful Semantics to help them with this.

On Thursday the class got the opportunity to cheer on the upper school as they completed their sports day activities. It all looked like great fun and the children can't wait to take part in their own activities next week. We are keeping our fingers crossed for a sunny day.

We wish you all a lovely weekend.

Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig
