Good afternoon everyone,

It has been lovely to see all the boys and girls back in school this week. They have all been full of enthusiasm and excitement as always.

Our story focus this week was a book called 'Pumpkin Soup.' It is a lovely story with a lesson about the importance of working as a team and using everyone's strengths at its heart.

As it is the week leading up to Halloween, the children created a haunted house picture in Art. They used pastels to create a spooky background which included a glowing moon. The children then used black paper to create the outline of a haunted house then used bright yellow paper to create brightly lit windows. They made a super job.

For Writing this week, the children wrote a story based on a haunted house. Their learning intention was to be able to use descriptive words in their story. They listened to the story called 'Spookysaurus' and listened out for any interesting spooky beings or descriptive words they could use in their own stories. All ideas were written down on a large piece of paper. The children then drew their own haunted house and, while they were creating it, they had to think about what would be inside their house.
After some teacher modelling and a good discussion of ideas, the children went off and wrote their own. Every child was able to include a piece of description which really helped bring their stories to life. They were very entertaining to read.

In Maths this week, the children continued to work on addition strategies. Some children were learning to add multiples of tens and others were looking at using knowledge of doubles to 20 to find the answers to near doubles calculations. Sometimes the work was challenging but the children really persevered and used concrete materials when required.

Today has been a fantastic fun day. I really enjoyed seeing all the children dressed up for Halloween. They were so excited and ready to have fun. Some of the highlights of today were taking part in a spider drive instead of a beetle drive and making magical fizzy magic potions!

I hope you all have a spooktacular weekend and we look forward to seeing all the boys and girls back at school on Monday.

Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
