Good afternoon,

We are still waiting in anticipation for our chrisalides to open up. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the butterflies will make an appearance by early next week.

This week the children began a block of work on fractions. They had an opportunity to discuss what they already knew about fractions. The children learned about what fractions of different shapes looked like. They also used their knowledge of division to work out fractions of amounts. It was interesting to learn that the bigger the number on the bottom of the fraction, the smaller amount or piece you would get.

On Wednesday, the class visited the local woodland. We carried on with our minibeast theme this week. The children had to work together to create mini beast palaces. They were given guidance from pictures and written information provided by the Woodland Trust. As you can see from the pictures, the children worked fantastically well together to produce wonderful palaces!

The children got to put all their writing skills in action this week because they had to write their own imaginative story. We discussed different ideas for characters, settings and storylines. The children could then write a story based on any ideas they had heard or their own ideas. I was amazed at the range of different stories, from werewolves to slippery fish to dogs on the moon. I enjoyed reading the stories that had included interesting description.

For Workship for Literacy, the children continued to work on developing their knowledge and understanding of alphabetical order. Ask them about the Stop the Bus game that Mrs Greig played with them!

Have a lovely weekend.
