Good afternoon everyone,

This week has been jam packed full of new learning experiences, fun activities and terrific teamwork.

On Tuesday the children finally got to perform their dance while it was being recorded. They looked absolutely super in their sparkly outfits and their dancing was outstanding. Please look on Seesaw to see the dance in all its glory. All the children should be really proud of themselves because they learned and used so many skills to reach the point of performance including perseverence, following instructions, teamwork and presenting.

For maths this week the children were either consolidating their knowledge of the ten times table then learning the five times table or they were learning the two times table. All the children were given the opportunity to work with materials so they could visualise or act out problems to support their understanding.

For project this week the children were learning all about the food that was eaten in castles in medieval times. As a class we recorded what they already knew and then they came up with some questions about food that they wanted to find out about. In pairs the children read a short text and highlighted any information that answered their research questions. They learnt a lot, including that not only did they eat pig and beef like we do today but they also ate bear! It was also interesting to find out that the cook had to taste the food before the king in case it was poisoned. As a class, we recorded answers as notes on large pieces of paper.

On Thursday, the children used the class notes to help them write a historical report about castle food. They were given a writing frame to support them. The children had to turn the notes into proper sentences when using them in their work. You will see the reults of this work on Seesaw.

Also on Thursday, the children were given a team challenge during outdoor learning. They had to build a den for themselves using a set amount of equipment. This was an activity that is part of the natural connections award. We were very lucky to have five primary five pupils to help. Each primary five pupil supported a different group. It was great fun and the skills of teamwork, patience, problem solving and perseverence were all in evidence. Have a look on Seesaw to see the children in action.

Have a super weekend. Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
