Good afternoon everyone,

Mrs Greig cannot praise the children highly enough for the effort and enthusiasm they put into their creative dance practises. I am sure the finished dance will be fantastic.

For project this week the children learnt all about castles through the ages. First there were motte and bailey castles, then stone castles and finally concentric castles. The children discussed the features of each castle and their purpose. They then completed the labels to match the name of the different parts of  a stone castle.  Finally, the children drew their own picture of a motte and bailey castle and labelled the main parts.

To finish off their work on parts of a castle, the children spent their outdoor learning time creating an outline of a motte and bailey castle using natural materials. It was super to hear all the project related words being used during this process. All groups worked really well together.

For writing this week, the children were introduced to the life of a knight. they learned that knights were not free and were given land by nobles. This meant they had to fight for the nobles when they were told. The children also learned knights enjoyed jousting and had a special coat of arms on their shield.  The children then used this information to help them to write an imaginative story about a day in the life of a knight.

Our work on subtraction continues. This week the children were either working on strategies for taking away single digits from a two digit number bridging ten or for taking away from the numbers 11 to 15. The children were able to use the strategy that they understood best. Next week the children will continue subtraction work for a couple of a days but will also be working on 3d shape for some of the week.

During discovery learning, the children have been creating a role play castle area. They have been working on this with Miss Irwin who is working alongside Mrs Greig and me for the next few weeks. Keep a look out on Seesaw for the finished result next week.

Have a lovely weekend, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig
