Good afternoon everyone,

On Monday, most of the children were able to finish their paper plate polar bears. They also got a chance to see what had happened to the shaving foam and glue. To their surprise it had dried into a soft, spongey and velvety texture. Not what some were expecting!

Our workshop for literacy novel this week was Flat Stanley. The Great Egyptian Grave Robbery. After the children had discussed the main ideas of the chapters, Mrs Greig showed the children how to sequence them so they were in the correct order. The children then had to choose three main points of the story so far and write a sentence for each. They had to ensure the sentences were written in the order that they happened in the story.

For maths this week some children consolidated or revisited strategies for adding numbers to 20 and others completed their assessment of adding numbers up to 100. All the children have made progress from their starting point at the beginning of this topic which is great news.

On Wednesday the children watched a film that compared the life of  a child in Edinburgh to a child who lived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We had a great discussion about the similarities and differences between their two lives.

On Thursday the children created an information poster about Ethiopia based on what they had learned the day before. They included information about traditional food and clothes, the weather and facts such as what the flag looks like or that Ethiopia is land locked.

We have also been busy creating a lovely Christmas card for you. The boys and girls really worked hard on what was a tricky task. Well done to them all.

The children also got a chance to finish their tree sketches at outdoor learning this week. Every drawing was different and it was lovely to see the children making an effort to add texture to their work.

I hope you all have a super weekend.

Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig
