Good afternoon everyone,

I cannot believe the first term is over and the October holidays are here. The weeks seem to have flown by.

This week the children have continued their wonderful efforts at run club. Lots of the boys and girls are speaking very enthusiastically about it and are proud that they are getting faster and fitter.

The book of the week was all about a little boy who got very angry and what he did to deal with the situation. The children went on to write about the main idea of the story. Later in the week, they wrote about a time that they felt angry and what they did to calm down.

For Numeracy this week, the children have been consolidating their understanding of addition to ten or twenty and practising different addition strategies. Mrs Greig and I are encouraging the children to use concrete materials such as numicon to help them to visualise the problem and understand strategies being used.

Our project entitled 'Caring for Others' came to an end this week. The children were learning about voting. They found out that a secret ballot is best so people don't feel pressured into voting a certain way to please others in the group. The children then took part in a pretend vote. They had to imagine they were voting for a pupil council member. They had to choose from three imaginary candidates. The children learned that when they were voting for a person to represent them it was important to listen to what the candidates believed in and what they would do for their class if they were successful.

Mrs Greig and I have really enjoyed observing the children playing during discovery learning this week. The children's imaginative and problem solving skills are super. We have had beautiful artistic creations being made, lots of dramatic play involving cats, role play being teachers and pupils, story writing and the children's own version of domino rally among many other activities.

Finally, Mrs Greig and I just want to say that it has been a real pleasure to teach the boys and girls this term. They are such a lovely enthusiastic class and we look forward to seeing them all again next term.

Kind regards,
Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig
