Good afternoon everyone.

During Workshop for Literacy this week the children listened to and discussed the main idea of a story called 'Our Class is a Family.' The main theme of the story was to show kindness to others within the class.

In Numeracy, we are almost finished our work on place value to 20 or 100. Some children were looking at estimating numbers on a number line and rounding numbers to the nearest ten. Others were looking at odd and even numbers and counting in twos.  We will be finishing off our work on place value next week before starting a new Maths topic. Some of the more difficult place value concepts will be revised and reinforced.

Our peronal Writing topic this week was entitled 'My Family.' The children had the opportunity to write about who was in their close family, what made them special and what they liked to do together. It was lovely to read that many thought their family was special because they were loving and gave lots of cuddles. The children worked hard on ensuring careful punctuation and spelling.

On Wednesday the children had an opportunity to design a new pair of jeans for a Paw Patrol character. The standard of entries from P2/3 was very high and I am glad that I did not have to choose the winning design! The competition was part of the Jeans for Genes charity event being organised by P5.

On Thursday the children were finally given the opportunity to finish their Picasso pictures. They had to paint their portraits with different shades of blue. A great discussion was had about the effect that black and white would have if added to the blue paint. It was also suggested that small amounts of green could be added to the blue to create a different shade as long as not too much was added. The children also learned that we could not add yellow to the blue to create shade as this would produce green when mixed together. The end results were super as you can see from the two examples added to this app.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards,
Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
