Good afternoon everyone,

It really has been a busy but fun week in P2/3.

Monday started brilliantly when Mrs Greig introduced the children to run club. The club will help the children develop their running technique. However, it will also help develop many other skills that will be beneficial to learning in the classroom including concentration, perseverance and resiliance. The feedback from the children about run club has been very positive.

After being reminded of the school values last week, Mrs Greig focused on the value of respect this week. The class discussed what respect looked like and then drew one of the examples. The pictures will become part of a larger display about the school values within our classroom. We are going to work very hard as a class team to demonstrate the values each day in class.

This week the children have been developing and consolidating their knowledge and understanding of numbers. They have worked on number order, numbers before and after, 1 more/less and 10 more/less.

For literacy this week the children listened to the story of the 'Colour Monster.' This was followed by a discussion about recognising our feelings and understanding that we can experience more than one feeling over the course of a day.

Art this week was also linked to feelings. The children were introduced to the painting 'Concentric Circles' by Kandinsky. Kandinsky could hear the different sounds colours made and he linked them to different feelings. The children chose the colours for their circle based on the feelings they had had throughout the day. The biggest circle would be the colour of the feeling they had experienced the most. All the circles will be joined to create our own display based on the original Concentric Circles art work.

For writing this week the children chose a feeling from their Concentric Circle and wrote a short piece of personal writing about it. They explained what the feeling was and what happened that made them feel that way. We had writing about being excited to go on holiday, being upset after a fall and being happy to be playing with friends during the holidays. Some of the writing will be displayed alongside the circle art.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine.

Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
