Good afternoon everybody.

The children have settled back into our routines ready for Term 3 learning. It is hard to believe that we are half way through our academic year already.

We have completed the addition and subtraction to 20 tasks and are now working on the money targets that we started in December. The children are recognising all of our coins and using addition/subtraction strategies to add coins together remembering that we do not have 3/4/6/8/9p coins.  We have practised counting in 2's, 5's and 10's to help us count our coins.

I have sent home, for homework, a copy of the words for the songs we are singing at the Music Festival which is taking place in the Vine Fellowship Church on Wednesday the 1st of February. It would be great if the children can practise them to help build up their confidence for our special day.
There is also a copy of our Scots poem The Sair Finger by Walter Wingate for the children to practise also. I will choose 3/4 children who will recite their poem to management on 25th January. One winner will recite the poem to the whole school at one of our reconnectors.  (Remember to encourage actions as well as good pacing and clear, confident  voices) I am looking forward to listening to their recitals.

We are starting gymnastics next Monday could any children with long hair please have it tied back so that it doesn't catch on any of the apparatus. Thank you.

We have been practising our Scots words throughout our literacy tasks with the children rtranslating Scots to English in our Drawing club. Our art work on Friday is Scots words on tartan. It looks really effective.

We were lucky to get out on Wednesday afternoon before the rain started and made popping bags with warm water, vinegar and Bicarbonate of Soda. We had to work really fast as they exploded really quickly!
The children then made parachutes using plastic sheeting. They had to work as part of a team to get the sheeting to open up and fill with wind to make it fly. It was so good to hear their excited screams as they ran off with the parachutes flying!

The children have brought home a shared reading book today. The children choose a book they want to share with someone at home to read for pleasure. The book will be returned for the next Friday so they can swap it for another one.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Miss Shearer
