Good afternoon everyone,

On Monday, the boys and girls were working very hard on their creative dance. It is really coming together. Thank you all for supporting the organisaton of costumes.

This week for Maths, we became more proficient in using a double tens frame to support us to understand the process of subtracton of numbers up to 19. Some children were confident enough with visualising the numbers and were able to complete calculations in their head.

Mrs Greig read the story of Goldilocks this week as part of our Fairyland topic. The children then used their reading and comprehension skills to put words in a sentence in the correct order or to complete a close passage about Hansel and Gretel.

On Wednesday, the children continued the fairy tale theme for their writing. I challenged them to put a least one adjective into their writing to add detail. My favourite adjectives found in the writing were terrifying and delicious.

There was a lot of excitement on Wednesday afternoon when the children were challenged to create their own Hansel and Gretel sweetie houses using real sweets. The success criteria was to be able to explain what the different sweets represented on their house. A lot of creative and imaginative thinking went on. Details included, balconies, drainpipes, tiles, chimneys, doors, windows, letter boxes and door handles. The end product was not the most important part of this learning activity. It was the process of design, creativity and being able to verbalise their ideas.

On Thursday afternoon, we incorporated Play, Maths, Project and ICT into one. The children had to safely guide Hansel and Gretel through a maze from the house of sweets to their own home. This was done in pairs and the children were given time to problem solve this themselves. Again, several skills were covered including problem solving, team work, programming and testing out a plan.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Kind regards
Mrs Greig & Mrs Thomson
