Good afternoon everyone,

The excitement about Fairyland has continued this week. The dragon wrote to the children again and asked them to make a new castle for Fairyland. Mrs Taylor visited us again and not only helped us create a wonderful castle display but also added a golden harp and hen to our Jack and the Beanstalk display. The children worked very hard to create all the parts of the pictures.

On Wednesday, we continued our work on learning how to ensure our stories have a beginning, middle and end. The children used a 3 part picture plan to help them record the most important parts of the Sleeping Beauty story. They could then use each picture to write at least one sentence about that part of the story. The dragon is going to be so pleased when he reads the wonderful retellings that they have all created.

On Wednesday, the children learned the names of the different parts of a castle and what their function was. There was lots of enthusiasm for this lesson and the children had many good questions about the topic. These included, why did the soldiers not just swim across the moat and where did the people live within the castle?

On Thursday, the children put their new found knowledge about castles to good use. They worked in groups to design and build a new castle for the dragon. The children had to work in groups and had to include some of the parts of the castle that they had learned about the previous day. The task was met with great enthusiasm.

For Maths this week, the children completed assessments on addition up to 20. On Friday they started their new maths topic which is subtraction within 20. Their knowledge of addition to 20 should assist them with calculations.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Kind regards, Mrs Thomson
