Good afternoon,

This week the children reinforced their understanding of adding 9, doubles and near doubles. They also investigated making addition pairs for the totals 12, 13, 14 and 15.

For Workshop for Literacy this week, the children listened to the story of 'Room on the Broom' in Scots. They then discussed the meaning of some of the Scots words and drew pictures to illustrate them.

We had a visit from Mr Grew on Wednesday. He works for HSBC. He spoke to the children about the importance of saving money and spending it wisely. He was also happy to answer any questions the children had about the bank.

All the children performed their Scots poem to the class this week. Mrs Greig and I are so proud of them all. The finalists were Jack, Sam and Josh. Unfortunately, Sam was unwell on the day of the final so Filip was chosen to replace him. I hope Sam gets well soon.

We had a Scottish themed day on Thursday to celebrate Burns Day. The children got to taste some Scottish jam and honey on top of a Scottish oatcake. They designed their own Scottish tartan too and had a go at creating their own Scottish thistle.

On Friday, we took part in the RSPB great big bird watch. It was really hard to keep super quiet so we could observe the birds without scaring them. We recorded our results on a picture tick sheet. The results will be uploaded to the RSPB website.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards,
Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig
