Good afternoon everyone,

There was lots of excitement and talk about Halloween this week. Lots of the children wanted to share their 'guising' stories.

For Numeracy this week, the children were learning to put numbers in the correct order from smallest to largest and from largest to smallest. The majority of children very quickly remembered that looking at the tens in a digit  helped them compare numbers. They also remembered to look at the ones if the tens were the same.

On Thursday, the children learned a very, long, new word. The word was onomatopoeia. The children found out that this means that the word sounds like what it means. For example, thud, boom and splat. After learning what it meant, the children watched a firework display and they had to think about the onomatopoeic words they could use to describe it. The children came up with an amazing range of words including, sizzle, whoosh, whistle, pop, bang and crackle. They then used the words they had generated to create a Bonfire Night list poem. Every child did a super job and some of the poems will be put on display.

For Project this week, the children learned how sound is created. They made elastic band guitars to help them experiment with sound. Through this lesson, they learned that sound is caused by vibrations, you can sometimes see sound vibrations and if you stop the vibrations then you will stop the sound. The children also learned that if you pluck a band gently it will produce a soft sound and if you pluck it with force it will produce a loud sound. It was lots of fun.

Have a lovely weekend. Kind regards Mrs Thomson
