Good afternoon,

At Monday's reconnector, the boys and girls had a visit from a lady called Janet MacLean. She was a representative from Robertson Homes who are building the houses behind the new Beanstalk Nursery. Janet wanted to speak to the children about the dangers of building sites and why it was not a safe place to play. She introduced a poster competition to all the children. They had to design a poster to warn of the dangers of a building site. Mrs Howie will pass on all the entries to Janet who will then choose a winner.

In maths this week the children were learning to count accurately. They learned that you can keep track of what you are counting by touching each object with your finger as you count. The children were reminded to only say one number for each object that they touched. Most children were successful. Some children learned that they would only be successful when they stayed fully focused when counting. There were a few children who needed support to remember which number came next when crossing the decade numbers. For example, remembering that 30 came after 29 or 50 came after 49. At home, practising counting forwards and backwards from different numbers up to 100 would be a worthwhile activity.

Jeans for Genes day was a big highlight of the week today. The children thoroughly enjoyed showing of their denim wear and participating in a denim disco with P1. The children also got the chance to design a new pair of jeans as part of a competition run by P4. We talked about what a designer does and looked at some of the clothes created by some famous designers before letting our imagination run wild. We finished the day with the side by side challenge walk. The children walked 6 laps of the playground with a buddy. The six laps were to represent one for every 1,000 genetic conditions that exist. Even after such a busy day the children were enthusiastic with their participation. What a fun way to end the week!

Have a lovely weekend. Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
