Good afternoon,

For maths this week the children have been learning to recognise the numbers before/after/between and 1/2 more/less. This has been challenging for some children and they have had the opportunity to use a number square to support them to develop their mental picture of the numbers to 100. Their homework for this week is to practise finding the numbers before and after. This can be found on the activities section on Seesaw.

The Workshop for Literacy story this week was Katie Morag and the 2 Grandmothers. Katie lives in a very different house and area from the Lighthouse Keeper. The children are learning that we can live in all sorts of different buildings and shelters.

Mrs Greig focused on the reading skill of predicting this week. They had to predict what would happen to the dirty sheep. There were some very interesting ideas. One child thought that Granny Island would put shampoo on the sheep and put it through the car wash!

For Colourful Semantics, the children were introduced to the blue what word. We played guess the what picture from the clues I gave. The children were very good at recognising the what words which included an elephant, pancake and toaster. The children then created their own silly sentence by choosing an orange who, yellow doing and blue what word. They wrote the sentence and illustrated it. We will consolidate the blue what words next week.

We had fun inventing our own island as part of our Drawing Club writing. Katie Morag lives on an island and we thought it would be fun to invent our own. The children drew them and then wrote about them. There were so many wonderful ideas for islands including dinosaur, halloween, magical, water fun and sweetie island.

We learned about the dangers of electricity in the home on Thursday. The children had to spot and discuss the dangers in the interactive house on the Smartboard. They then had to use what they had learned to find all the dangers in the picture on the worksheet they were given. The children are well aware of the dangers and could articulate them to others in the class.

For outdoor learning this week, we explored our immediate local area to identify the different homes and local facilities available. We will use this information to help us create our own map of our area during another lesson.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
