Good afternoon,

For maths this week the children continued work on recognition of numbers to 100. The class also worked on recogninsing the numbers before and after. Next week they will work on identifying the numbers between two numbers within 100.

On Thursday, the children listened to the story of Angelika Sprocket's Pockets. The children had to listen carefully to the story and choose their favourite things that Angelika had in her pockets. It was very funny because she kept things like snappy crocodiles, enormous grey elephants and skateboards in them! After discussing the book the children then shared their own ideas for things Angelika could keep in her pockets. They then drew four things they would choose for Angelika to have.

Later, the children used their pictures to write a few sentences about Angelika Sprocket's Pockets. We had diamond giraffes, green gigantic dinosaurs and a brown and pink umbrella as some of the ideas. The children had to focus on careful capital letters and full stops. They also had to try hard to use their phonics knowledge to help them spell.

The children have also worked hard to create the class charter this week. This is linked to our school's  Rights, Respecting School initiative. The charter forms the expectations the class have for each other regarding behaviour, respectfulness and responsibility.

Finally, after reading a few Lighthouse Keeper story books, and to link with our project on different kinds of homes, the children made their own model lighthouses during art. They got their own battery operated light to put in it. We had looked at circuits last week and how they worked. It was explained that there was a mini version of the circuit in each little light and the switch broke or completed the circuit to turn the light on and off.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and the weather stays nice for you all. Kind regards, Mrs Thomson and Mrs Greig.
