Good Afternoon,

What another super busy week in the P1b classroom!
We have now completed our learning on subtraction within 10 in Numeracy.  This week our focus has been on solving missing number subtraction calculations. Most of us are now confident and competent in using our fingers to support us with this. Please ask us to show off our new skills at home. We have also been developing our understanding of the language of subtraction including, take-away, minus, less than, subtract from and what is the difference between.

In our Digital Literacy lessons, we visited the ICT Suite and the PCs. We are consolidating our learning of using a username and password to log on and log off and learning to use a search engine. We will gain confidence as we visit the ICT Suite on a regular basis. We also used the ipads to become more familiar with using the drawing tools within Seesaw. We hope you enjoyed viewing our beautiful artwork.

‘Welly Wednesday’ was a definite highlight of our week. Once again, we were working together, demonstrating our collaborative teamwork skills, this time in order to plan and create a fun obstacle course. We shared ideas, helped each other and proudly displayed our school values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility in our actions. Not to mention we had a great time testing out our obstacle course! At this time can I please ask that you ensure your child comes to school every Wednesday with appropriate outdoor learning clothes and footwear as although we have been considerably lucky, the weather in Scotland is very unpredictable and it can become cold and rainy quickly. Our field also does become very wet if it rains so If your child does have wellies please ensure they bring them each week!

The end of the week saw us help Discovery Dog and his niece Naughty Nora with two more science investigations. On Thursday we helped Nora, by investigating whether taller people are always older. In small groups we learned to compare each other’s heights and order ourselves from tallest to shortest. We then compared whether the tallest people were in fact the oldest. We were surprised to discover that in some groups, the tallest person was indeed the oldest but in most groups it was in fact the smallest person that was older. On Friday we were able to make connections to our learning from the previous lesson to help us investigate whether people with longer legs can jump the highest. Once again, we were surprised by the results. Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to Discovery Dog and Naughty Nora today as they are off to visit another school. However we hope to see them again in the future.

One final note, please remember that Monday is school photo day. The children should come to school in their full school uniform for this day.

Have a wonderful weekend
