Good Afternoon,

The highlight of the week was the arrival of two visitors to our classroom, Discovery Dog and his niece Nora, who have come to help us with some science experiments. On Tuesday we carried out our first experiment called ‘puddle trouble’, in which we investigated the concept of absorption. During the experiment we tested five different types of material, paper, plastic, wool, cotton and polyester, to see which one managed to absorb the most water. We were surprised by the result, as none of us expected that the cotton material would be the most absorbent. We are looking forward to next weeks science experiment.

In Numeracy we have been continuing our learning of subtraction. For mental maths we focused on, counting backwards from different numbers within 10 and using the mathematical vocabulary of before and less. We then learned to solve written subtraction calculations by using the ‘counting back’ strategy, where we but the big number in our head and use our fingers to count backwards. We have found this strategy quite challenging so we will continue to practice during mental maths next week.

In literacy we used the stories ‘The Tiger who came to tea’ and ‘It’s my turn’ as a stimulus to learn the common words ‘came’ and ‘it’s’. We also continued our learning from last week on sequencing a story. This week we read and sequenced some sentences from the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. Finally, we consolidated our sounds knowledge focusing on the sounds ‘oa, oi, ai, and ng’, using these sounds to write sentences.

This week our ‘Welly Wednesday’ adventures saw us developing our teamwork skills as we worked together to build dens. Despite the wind being quite strong and blowing our efforts down, a lot! some of us demonstrated great perseverance, resilience, ‘give-it-a-go’ attitudes and creativity as we worked to make our dens. We hope you enjoyed viewing some pictures of our efforts on Seesaw.

We hope you have a wonderful Weekend.
