Good Afternoon
I hope you all enjoyed the holiday weekend last week, despite the wet and windy weather. It was lovely to read all about the fun and exciting activities that you all participated in, as the children shared these during this week’s Drawing Club. We continued to develop our skills in writing a sentence and I am proud to say that most of us are remembering to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

In other areas of Literacy, we learned the ‘oo’ and ‘ee’ sounds this week and learned to read and spell the common words ‘look, looked, too and see’. We also focussed on developing our sight vocabulary to increase fluency when reading our stories, by playing many games including matching pairs, and the common word cups game. We learned to read and spell the tricky common word ‘like’, learning that the letter ‘e’ on the end is a magic letter that casts a spell over the ‘i’ sound changing it to say its name when reading the word. Please do continue to practise these new common words and all others taught to further develop your child’s fluency in reading these. Look out for the updated common word list on Seesaw.

We begun learning about 2d shapes in maths and have been learning to name, identify, sort, and describe a circle, square, rectangle and triangle. We also learned that these shapes are all around us in everyday objects within our environment and had fun becoming shape detectives as we looked for examples of these different shapes within our classroom.

On Thursday had great fun as we participated in handball taster session run by Dunfermline’s Active Schools community. During our session we developed our ball rolling and throwing skills as well as our teamwork, as we played the game ‘tidy your bedroom’. A letter has been sent home giving details of handball sessions at Dunfermline High School should your child wish to participate in further sessions.

The highlight of the week however was welcoming a new friend, Antonio, to Canmore. We have thoroughly enjoyed asking him different questions to get to know him, playing with him during discovery learning time as well as at break and lunch time and helping him settle into our classroom and school routines. We hope that he has had a fantastic first week at Canmore!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend
