Good afternoon
This week we have been focusing on growing our positive mental health as part of ‘Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week’. After discussing and thinking of many fantastic examples of how we keep our bodies healthy, eating lots of fruit and vegetables, washing our hands, doing exercise, drinking water and getting enough sleep, we learned that the way we think, feel and act can greatly affect our mental health.  Each day this week we have enjoyed exploring ways to keep our minds healthy.
On Monday we explored the concept of `Sharing Kindness'. In class we discussed ways to share kindness, one way ‘saying please and thank you’ and throughout the day we shared stories of how we and others in our class were sharing kindness.  On Tuesday we explored the concept of `Being Mindful', We learned how to do `Bee Breathing` and we also enjoyed some Mindful Colouring. On Wednesday we explored the concept of `Staying Connected`. We played a game where we asked questions to find out more about each other and what we had in common. We also connected virtually, with two members of our class who were not in school that day.
On Thursday we explored the concept of `Keep Learning`. We learned how to play a new game to support us in reading our common words. On Friday we explored the concept of `Get Moving`. We tried some Cosmic Kids yoga.
Also this week in Literacy, we learned that when the letters ‘t and h’ go together in a word they make the ‘th’ sound. We all agreed that this is a very cheeky sound, as it forces us to stick our tongues out when we say it. We also increased our sight vocabulary by learning lots of new common words with the ‘th’ sound including ‘this, they, that, then, them and with. We realised that having a greater sight vocabulary leads to us becoming more fluent readers and have enjoyed participating in many common word games and activities to support us in learning to read and spell these words ‘off by heart’, including our new favourite game ‘common word cups’.

In Numeracy we continued to develop our fluency in addition, using our fingers, numicon and cubes to support us. In Mental Maths we were learning to add the numbers 0, 1 and 2 to other numbers and practised mentally adding two numbers together using the strategy of putting the biggest number in our heads and ‘counting on’. We will consolidate this strategy next week in our Numeracy lessons.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, don’t forget to make your Monday’s book choice on Seesaw.
