Good Afternoon,

Celebrating Scottish culture and heritage has been thoroughly embraced in the Primary 1b classroom this week. On Monday we all performed our recitals of the Poem ‘Robin Reidbriest’ by JK Annand for the ‘Burns poetry competition, to Miss Yorkston, who was extremely proud of all of us. She thought that we all showed great perseverance and give it a go attitudes in learning the tricky Scots language and performed with confidence and clarity. She found it exceptionally hard to narrow down her four finalists. Well done again to Ada, Santiago, Fergus and Cara and an extra special well done to Fergus for impressing Mrs McIntosh with his recital and becoming our overall P1b winner!

On Tuesday to celebrate the birthday of Robert Burns, we enjoyed our own Scottish themed day. We started the day by learning about some of the traditions Scottish people all over the world participate in to celebrate this day and enjoyed tasting some tasty Scottish treats including vegetarian haggis, oatcakes and shortbread. In literacy we also enjoyed listening to Miss Yorkston read the well-known story ‘The Gruffalo’ by Julia Donaldson in Scots! We had great fun using our existing knowledge of the story to decipher the Scots words. This inspired us to learn more Scots words through participating in the fun games ‘Heid, Shooders, Knaps and Taes’ and ‘Hamish Says’.

To round the week off we enthusiastically sang some traditional Scottish songs, including our favourites ‘Three Craws’ and ‘You Cannae Shove Your Grannie’, with Mrs Baxter in Music.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend! Don’t forget to vote for Monday’s story time book choice before 9 o’clock on Monday morning.
