Good Afternoon,

What a busy week it has been!

We were delighted to have finally reached India, in our Daily Mile Destinations Challenge this week. In our research we were amazed to find out 1.35 billion people live in India. We were also impressed that they can speak two languages in India, Hindi and English. Our favourite facts though were finding out all about the different types of animals that can be found in India, including Miss Yorkston’s favourite an elephant. We are looking forward to completing more Daily Miles next week and hopefully reach our next destination China!

In literacy this week we completed the second set of letter sounds and are therefore able to recognise and recall the sounds made by the letters ‘c, k, r, e, m, d, and h’. We have been focussing upon forming each of these letters correctly and reading and writing the high frequency words; ‘am, and, can, dad, had, him, his’. Next week will be our consolidation week in which we will practise further what has been taught.

In numeracy we learned all about the number 8. We learned how to form number 8 correctly and to count accurately and record totals using the scoring out strategy.  We also learned the add facts for 8 and had a go at writing down the sums for each add fact. We will continue this skill next week.

On Thursday we discussed Remembrance Day learning about the importance of this special day.  We took part in a minute silence and Mrs Baxter commented on how  impressed she was by how quietly we all sat  for the minute. We were proud of our beautiful poppy artwork that we created and we hope you like them too.

I hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy your extra day by participating in lots of fun family time. I can’t wait to hear all about your weekends on Monday.
