Good afternoon,
In maths this week we were learning about 3D Shape. We learned to recognise and name the cube, cuboid, cylinder, cone and sphere. We used construction kits, block play and shape games to become familiar with the shapes and their properties.
In writing we shared our own ideas in an imaginative piece about The Three Little Pigs and their new home. We continued to work on writing a sentence which starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop, which has the most common words spelled correctly and others spelled with good phonetic attempts, which has letters formed correctly and which has a space between each word.
In reading we learned the sound made by oi and learned to read and spell the common words;  little, made and make. We also continued to develop fluency in our reading aloud times by practising the common words in a lotto game, a vanishing man game ( a modernised `hangman’ game), a flashcard race against the sand timer session and by writing words in shaving foam. The children have all taken home a paper copy of the 100 most common words to practise at home too. Please see Seeaw for suggested activities.
In Health and Well-being we have begun to learn about where things come from, how they grow and develop and how they are nurtured and cared for. Learning about the penguin life-cycle was a favourite, so far!
However, the highlight of the week was Red Nose Day. The theme of the day was laughter and there certainly was lots of that. From the Joke Competition in the morning to our Laughter Yoga session in the afternoon, laughter was had by all.
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs.Davie and P1a.
