Good afternoon,
Stories provide an exciting and stimulating springboard for learning, and this week, science, phonics and reading lessons all grew from the sharing of the story, `Foxes In The Snow’ . Initially this story provided the purpose for learning the `x’ sound and the relevance for learning to read the word `the’ and then to use our senses outdoors, as we identified signs (other than the snow), of Winter.
Another exciting and engaging springboard for this week’s learning came in the form of an e-mail from Mrs. Kernohan in the office asking if our class teddy, `Buster’, could help her in the office each day at 10 o`clock. The children immediately saw the need to learn how to tell the time and therefore our new maths topic of `learning to tell the time in whole hours using the analogue and digital clocks ‘,began. I hope you will enjoy supporting your child at home using their home-made clocks, proudly created and taken home on Thursday.
Of course, there is nothing more exciting than entering a competition! This week: Scottish literacy, people in the past and our place in the world, were all explored after the introduction of Canmore`s annual Robert Burns Poetry Competition. As the poetry of Robert Burns can be a `little challenging’ for younger children, we have chosen to study the poem , ‘Robin Reidbriest’, by JK Annand instead. The children are already enjoying using the strange Scots words and learning to recite the poem.

Have a lovely weekend and look out for Monday's story-time book choice on Seesaw and remember to vote before 9 o`clock on Monday morning by commenting on the post.
