Good afternoon everyone,

This week in Numeracy, we have been continuing to learn how to subtract. Primary Two have been learning to subtract from a number within 20, using a number line and counting backwards. Primary One continued to subtract without pictorial support using our fingers to answer sums. We have also been developing our accuracy in Mental Maths by mentally subtracting within 10 and 20, using the ‘counting back strategy’.

In Literacy, we enjoyed listening to the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and used our writing skills to retell the story in our own words. In Phonics, P2 learned to read and write different words with the 'or' sound. One of our favourite activities was 'I spy' as we had to look carefully at the pictures to find the objects that had the 'or' sound and then use our phonic sounds to write the words. P1 learned to read and write different words with the 'ie' sound. Our favourite activity was writing all the ‘ie’ words into a giant picture of a pie.  In Reading, we focused on reading and spelling our common words and participated in lots of common word games including bingo, matching pairs and hangman. P1 also learned the common word ‘could’ and were trying to identify this word in our reading books.

Our S.T.E.A.M challenge was based on the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We had to work with a partner to create something to help Jack’s friend John escape down the beanstalk quickly. We demonstrated creative thinking and reasoning and made many successful solutions including slides, parachutes and ziplines.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!
