Good afternoon,

Firstly, I would like to take this time to say that it was lovely to catch up with some you this week during our parent contact telephone calls. I really enjoyed our conversations and I look forward to speaking with even more of you on Monday.

This week’s highlight started all the way back at the beginning of the week. On Monday afternoon, we were all very surprised to find that someone had sneakily been in our classroom as we were having lunch, and left us with a special delivery of a beautiful wicker basket and a very special letter. After a long discussion, where we all shared our thoughts as to who might have left us the special gift, we were excited to learn that it had been sent all the way from the Enchanted Forrest in Fairyland, by Little Red Riding Hood. In her letter, she told us that she and her fairy-tale friends desperately needed our help as they had gotten themselves into a little spot of trouble and asked us if we would be able to help them. She also told us that each week she would pop back into the classroom and leave some clues as to which Fairytale or Nursery Rhyme character needed our help. We were all extremely excited by this and looked forward to receiving our first set of clues.

On Tuesday morning we tried our hand at letter writing and decided to write a reply to Little Red Riding Hood thanking her for the wonderful gift, and sharing with her who our favourite Fairytale or Nursery Rhyme characters were. We learned all about the structure of a letter, including using the word, ‘Dear’ to begin.  In the afternoon, we were delighted to discover that Little Red Riding Hood had returned and left us our first basketful of clues.  This time the clues were for the nursery rhyme “Humpty Dumpty" and after singing the rhyme and creating actions to go with it, we completed our first STEAM challenge. We had fun working collaboratively with a partner to plan and create something to protect Humpty Dumpty from cracking if he fell off the wall again.  Examples of our creations can be found on Seesaw.

We had so much fun, discussing and creating our designs for Humpty Dumpty, and we can’t wait to see who we will be helping next week.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
